Tallow, a powerful moisturizer, is packed with nutrients, essential fatty acids, and antioxidants. In essence, tallow is a purified fat extracted from cow suet, a nutrient-rich fat found around the organs of certain ruminant animals, mainly cattle. The process of creating tallow involves carefully refining the suet to remove impurities, resulting in a pure, white substance with exceptional benefits. On our farm, we rinse our tallow three times to ensure its purity. Tallow is easily absorbed and closely resembles the natural oil in your skin, containing the same lipids present in healthy human skin. Lipids, which are abundant in every cell membrane in our bodies, help regulate the movement of liquids like moisture in and out of cells. These lipids create a protective yet permeable barrier that defends against infections, maintains moisture, and supports the cell's flexibility and structure.
Due to its lipid content, tallow is thought to address dryness at a cellular level without disrupting the skin's barrier, unlike lotions made from petroleum. Tallow is rich in vitamins A, D, K, and antioxidants like vitamin E, well-known for its skin-revitalizing properties. It fights free radicals that lead to wrinkles and helps preserve collagen by preventing its breakdown.

At Sage Creek Botanicals, we harvest raw milk from our beloved cows, Mya and Serena. Raw milk contains anti-inflammatory properties that can soothe various skin conditions such as acne, sunburn, and irritation, by calming the skin, reducing redness, and maintaining optimal moisture levels. It serves as both a superior cleanser and moisturizer for the skin. While many opt for boiled milk daily, raw milk is a richer source of vitamins, minerals, and healthy fats. Boiling milk may change its composition, potentially stripping away essential nutrients found in raw milk. These nutrients, when applied externally, enhance the skin's texture, leaving it nourished, smooth, soft, lustrous, and free from imperfections. Raw milk deeply cleanses pores by eliminating excess oil, sebum, dirt, and blackheads, thereby enhancing skin clarity. Thanks to its lactic acid content, raw milk is effective against acne by regulating oil production and preventing skin dryness, promoting balanced skin and reducing the risk of acne caused by excessive oiliness or dryness.

Sage Creek Botanicals has opted for lye soap due to its natural ingredients, steering clear of harmful chemicals often found in modern beauty and body care products. Lye soap contains no additives or hazardous components. When crafting soap by blending fats and oils, the oils must be thoroughly combined for saponification to yield a solid soap bar. Lye serves as the essential alkaline agent that triggers the necessary chemical reaction. Without it, soap cannot be produced. Through saponification, the interaction between fats and lye results in a skin-safe product post-curing. All lye is utilized during the soap-making process, ensuring no residual chemicals or harmful substances remain in the final product.
